Telephone Cabling With Modern Technology
When one unlocks the customer compartment of one’s NID, he can identify that each phone line installed in one’s house, there will be a phone jack in unison with a line plugged into it. One should not get worried if he has jacks without any line plugged into them, it may be that there was a second line fixed to one’s home at one time, that the wiring box was not workable, or that they just placed more than one wiring box and jack as a part of standard install. If one has more than one line, labels on the NID lid he must be well informed of which jack is in association with which phone line or number.
As a part of testing, one should take the line off the jack and he must plug his corded phone into it. So there will be no fear of the unavailability of the dial tone. At the same time in case if he listens to the dial tone at the time of hooking up one’s phone, there is the higher possibility of the fault in the wiring network in one’s house. After the problem still remains unsolved one should inform the phone companies for the further servicing. On the other hand there are many phone companies which prefer to make the upgradation of the color standards owing to the usage of the Cat 5 cable for the installation of phone lines.
With the coming of the new standard there is the unavailability of the green, red, black or yellow wires. They are usually superseded by white/blue, blue/white, white/orange and the vice versa. It is very simple matter to make the identification of the wire color. The cable is primarily mono color with small secondary color stripes being drawn on it. If the wire appears to be the orange with white stripes then that color must be orange/white.
